The Rikti are back.

NCSoft has recently announced that those old pesky aliens are back and they mean business in the upcoming free update to City of Heroes. In issue 10: "Invasion" the RIkti are going to try for a second time to engage the heroes of Paragon City and get a foothold on Earth.

For those of you that remember that far back in the game, the Rikti invasion was the very first world event in City of Heroes. One day, as all the heroes of Paragon City were about their daily business beating up on some 5th Column thugs (remember the 5th Column? ahhh... good times) or clearing a warehouse of some Clockwork when suddenly BAM! the skies go dark. We all look to see what happened and find huge saucer shape ships hovering in many areas of the city. As everyone gathered to try find out what was going on, KAPOW! the invasion forces start teleporting down and the fighting starts. Luckily, many of the heroes were experienced enough to push them back to their ships and the day was won.

The Rikti are coming back and they are not looking to make the same mistakes as in their first attempt. They're coming with brand new ships, brand new weapons, and brand new tactics to create brand new mayhem. I recommend you start gathering spare capes because when the Invasion hits you are going to need them.

Tom Desanto, who's best known for his work with Bryan Singer on the first two X-Men movies, announced last night on G4's "Attack of the Show" that he secured the rights to make City of Heroes into a movie. Good news for fans.
