The beginning of the end for WoW

POSTED BY Nemo, 03 December 2007

Vivendi announced that their video game department, Vivendi Games, is going to merge with Activision to create a new company called Activision Blizzard. All the people that follow Blizz know that they were safe under the wing of Vivendi because they were, apparently, far off from all the mess and influence of the main company, but now they are coming closer and closer to becoming part of the main entity. This, of course, should worry fans since mergers usually end up being bad for one side and excellent for the other. Blizz has being doing nothing but the best for years now so if you add all this up they look like the ones that will end up on the bad side of this deal.

Blizz put out a FAQ to alleviate worries but their first response says everything you need to know: “We do not anticipate any difference in Blizzard’s operations as a result of the combination.” Of course they don’t anticipate anything but people didn’t anticipate Black Swans either. For you philistines out there, there was a point in time when the world thought that there were only white swans. Because of this there was a saying for rare things that said, “ X thing is as rare as a black swan.” …the more you know... Anyway, if, according to the FAQ, nothing at all but the name of one company will change why did they merge? Because of cash man! Also in the FAQ is a response that I’m pretty sure 95% of the people playing WOW don’t really care about, but Activision is a public company and with the merge it will stay that way. So all of you folks out there can now be even closer to your favorite game by buying Activision Blizzard, Inc stock. Hooray and stuff.
