Total MMO
G4 doesn’t know anything about MMOs

G4’s website just added a new feature detailing “great failures” in several fields they think viewers might be interested in. One of those fields includes video games which eventually leads us to reaching the MMO side of this industry. The greatest failure in recent video game history -- I repeat: THE GREATEST FAILURE -- iiiiiiiiiiis…. “Every North American MMO Since World of Warcraft.”
That’s right, apparently no MMO since WoW has done anything other than crashed and burned. Before even coming to a decision on anything dealing with this choice I just had to see how they defended this. They start by giving the usual explanation why WoW is so cool, the fact that it's casual friendly and hardcore crazy at the same time and all that jazz you have seen or heard before from video game mags, sites, shows, etc. Then they go on to show us some of those games that have failed because of WoW. The two examples they bring up are -- get ready for this -- The Sims Online and Star Wars: Galaxies… this is when I finally began to laugh. Why? The Sims Online came out 2 years before WoW and was well into the graveyard by the time WoW came out. And there’s nothing more to say about this subject.
With Galaxies they still had a chance to make a point but they didn’t. They brought up the fact that Jedis went from being super-mega-ultra-hard to obtain to being available to anyone from the start, and that during the time of the original (holy) trilogy there were a handful of Jedis running around but the game killed that atmosphere because everyone started playing Jedis. Well to the dude at G4 that wrote this, welcome to Burning Crusade and patch 2.3 and also remember that this little saying “Lore LOL!” was created because of WoW. The explanation given for the history change from previous Warcraft games was actually “Oops.” Yes the guy telling us what was the reason for the change said, “Oops I forgot.” And let’s not forget that the horde has Warlocks, the Draenei can become Paladins, and with the new expansion EVERYONE is going to be able to become a Dark Knight.
All I can say about this is that either the person writing this has no idea about anything dealing with the world of Massively Multiplayer Games, or that they purposely went in this direction to create a ruckus to draw attention.
One last question, how did you folks get the new WoW commercials on air first? They usually start with the Sci-fi Channel, or TBS, or something like that.
Here is the list of failures.
