Tabula Rasa is out!

POSTED BY Nemo, 02 November 2007

Richard Garriott's, a.k.a Lord British a.k.a General British, Tabula Rasa officially launches today. This futuristic MMO that takes place in the present brings on the new, and trademarked, cloning system that allows you to make copies of your characters at certain points of your advancement to give the choice to take a different path later on if you decided to.

For some reason futuristic MMOs never really catch on even though everyone says that they are tired of the usual fantasy setting. Will this be the first to break through and step up to join the other MMO greats? Now you can decide by running to your closest computer and digitally downloading it. Does anyone actually buy the boxes anymore?

This game is pretty cool. Its way too similiar to Halo (NOT in gameplay, but in storyline/physics/visual aspects), but, it has a lot of uniqueness that it stays away from typical MMO feel. Its much less "grindy" and getting exp the good-old-fashioned way doesnt seem to involve camping, but spontaneous invasions of mobs. Its pretty cool how they invade your cities and forts and stuff, as well as randomly appear throughout the game zones. Quest system is typical but the acquisition of th LOGOS def spices a few things up - lots of custom ways to deck out your character's abilities. TR is still a baby, but in a few months to a year I expect it to be a pretty solid title.
