In today's Friday Update for Age of Conan the topic was the women. When this topic is brought up it usually ends up going two ways, either its reeeeally good or it turns out bad. In this occasion is the later, the guys in the development team dropped the ball on this one. They were doing so good with the violence and drinking and bam! they tripped on the woman hurdle.

Here is exactly where they dropped the ball, "As some of you may have picked up during our development, we have chosen a somewhat updated view on women compared to the works of Robert E. Howard. The world circa-2007 is very different, in most places, than the 1930’s in which the original Conan stories came around. Early on in our development, we therefore made a very clear and conscious choice: Namely that any female player in Hyboria should be just as strong and able as any man! The strong, fierce and independent female is perfectly in line with the lore of Howard, however, we have expanded it to include ALL the female players. And seriously guys, you wouldn’t want anything else, now would you? (let the discussions start!)"

Yes we are in the world of circa-2007 but much like the world of circa-1930 the Age of Conan is a fantasy world. It's fake, there's magic, there's demons, and many other strange things, but god forbid they have women be the sensual creatures of the novels.

They do go on to mention that they have put a lot of detail into making the female models, armor, emotes, into something that will still make female models a draw to the people that love the female shape. Just keep the male models with their bullnecks, don't change that.
